2022 Eloquence Art Prize

Matisse’s influence on Australian artists

Timed with the Art Gallery of NSW exhibition
Matisse: Life & Spirit, Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou, Paris.

20 November 2021 – 13 March 2022

The inaugural competition held in 2022 explores Matisse’s influence on Australian artists. Students were asked to explore ways in which Matisse has influenced the style, subject matter or thinking, of one or more Australian artists, and present their conclusions through a fifteen minutes illustrated talk and a short written introduction.

Shanti Shea-An

Shanti Shea-An (ANU)

Shanti Shea-An holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) from the ANU School of Art and Design, and a Master of Art History & Curatorial Studies from the ANU Centre for Art History and Art Theory. Her MA thesis, for which she was awarded the University Medal, examined pictorial and architectural thresholds in seventeenth-century Dutch painting. Shanti is currently a PhD candidate in the painting workshop at the ANU
